Lynn Smith
Prince Frederick, MD (Feb. 6, 2008) - Calvert Memorial Hospital has named Calvert County resident Lynn Smith as Vice President of Human Resources. Smith, who has 20 years experience in the field, including positions at hospitals in Maryland and Virgina, most recently served as HR director for AARP in Washington, DC.
"We're very fortunate to be able to recruit Lynn for this position," said CMH President and CEO Jim Xinis. "She has a proven track record as a results-oriented, hands-on leader."
Smith will replace Carrie Forrest, who joined CMH in 1978, next year when she retires. In the meantime, Xinis said, the two will work side-by-side "to allow for a more orderly transition."
"It was really a 'heart' decision to come to CMH," said Smith. "I see it as an extension of my love for the community. The people are so nice and welcoming here."
Since 2005, Smith has directed human resources at AARP supervising 40 employees and overseeing a $6 million budget. In that role, she advised the CEO and executive team on strategic HR matters such as recruitment and compensation.
"With my hospital background, I understand the challenges facing health care," she said, "especially with a county growing like Calvert." At present, CMH is the county's largest private employer with 1,100 employees.
"My focus is to look for ways to retain the highly qualified staff who are here," said Smith, "and to make sure we offer competitive benefits to attract new talent."
She went on to add, "My top priority is to learn as much as I can from Carrie and the other employees at the hospital."
Smith is a graduate of the University of Maryland and earned her bachelor's degree in business management. She obtained her certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Society of Human Resources Management. She lives in Huntingtown with her two daughters.
