Donation Enhances Patient Care at GYN/Oncology Center
The DeCesaris/Prout Cancer Foundation has donated $1,000 to enhance patient comfort at the Gynecologic Oncology Center at Calvert Memorial Hospital. The funds were used to purchase a blanket warmer and a sound system to provide relaxing music to create a soothing environment for those waiting and receiving treatment.
“We are very grateful to the DeCesaris/Prout Cancer Foundation for helping us to make our patients as comfortable as possible during their care,” said hospital spokesperson Kasia Sweeney.
The Prince Frederick facility, a collaborative effort with Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, offers women in Southern Maryland the opportunity to be expertly treated for cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancers close to home.
JoAnn DeCesaris Wellington and Beth Prout Lennon co-founded the DeCesaris/Prout Cancer Foundation. Both women were born and raised in Southern Maryland. Through the DeCesaris/Prout Golf Championship held annually at Twin Shields in Dunkirk, Beth and JoAnn have raised over $500,000 in the last five years to support cancer awareness and research.
Dr. Hyung Ryu accepted the donation on behalf of the GYN/Oncology Center at CMH. Dr. Ryu, who is fellowship trained in gynecologic oncology, has extensive training in leading edge laparoscopic and robotic techniques used for the treatment of cancers of the female genital tract.
The Gynecologic Oncology Center is located in Suite 112 of the Calvert Medical Office Building in Prince Frederick (next to the hospital). For more information, call 410-535-8272.
